Coronavirus Update: March 13, 2020 - @ 11:45 AM
Since our last communication, three counties in Washington – King, Pierce, and Snohomish – as of Wednesday, March 11, have a mandate from Governor Jay Inslee to cease gatherings of 250 or more people through the end of March to help contain the spread of the coronavirus. The Governor also made an announcement yesterday that all schools will close down through the end of April and King County released a document that outlines guidelines for faith communities (link: King County Guidelines).
Many events across the United States have been cancelled including the Growing Young Seminar some of us were going to attend down in Oregon this weekend. Though the Enumclaw SDA church attendance falls below the 250 person threshold the Elders and Church Board after reviewing a lot of information and the King County guidelines decided that we should not have Sabbath Services for the next two weeks. The situation will be re-evaluated each week thereafter. The Board has spoken with many within the church, health industry, conference and we have struggled with balancing faith, caution, liability and loving kindness to all. Because we are not able to insure that those in attendance have not had contact with or will pass on the COVD-19 virus during worship service or at other church wide functions we felt this was the best decision. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
Small groups, such as Wednesday night prayer meeting and the Diabetes Undone class, will make their own decision on continuing their meetings and taking precautions in accordance with the King County Guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 if they choose to continue to meet.
Please note there are many online services that you may join including HOPETV.org and 3abn.org. Please continue to pray. Everyone is affected by this and we need to continue to uplift our country and community in prayer.
